Why USA Swimming

USA Swimming

is the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States.  All United States Olympic Swimmers are USA Swimmers. United States youth have many options for places to swim and compete.  There are YMCA teams, Rec teams, High School teams,  Learn-to-swim programs, and Lessons.  Swimming and competing on a USA Swim team is another option and is one that swimmers should seriously consider.  But many swimmers are unfamiliar with this option.

USA Swimming is committed to excellence and the improvement of the sport of swimming and strives to inspire and enable USA Swimmers to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life.  There are more than 250,000 USA swimmers on more than 2600 teams throughout the United States.  STAS is proud to be a USA Swimming registered team in the Sierra Nevada LSC of the Western Zone.
The sports your children participate in and to what level is as much a parent’s decision as the child’s. All sports have pros and cons. In the case of swimming there are some very unique attributes.  Let’s look at the attributes of swimming.

  • Swimmers have the highest GPA of any sport for good reason.  They learn to work hard and persevere and that is what’s required of quality students as well.

  • Colleges recruit swimmers and even if a scholarship is not in the cards, college swim coaches have heavy influence on Who  gets admitted.

  • The leading cause of drug use and teenage pregnancy is excessive unsupervised time.  Swimming requires a significant time commitment.

  • Many sports have inherent limitations:the knees of runners deteriorate over time; football is a young person’s sport; swimming is great at any age.

  • Water can be dangerous and competitive swimmers are far less likely to panic in water or under water. If you live around lakes and rivers you will never regret having your child swim competitively.

  • The vast majority of swimmers have excellent self esteem  and body images.
